HIGH RISE TOWER STRATEGY AND DESIGN AT THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN HAYES VALLEY AND CIVIC CENTER IN SAN FRANCISCO.

IT INCORPORATES THE LANGUAGE OF CIVIC CENTER BUILDINGS WITHOUT LOSING THE CHARACTER OF HAYES VALLEY INTIMACY.

QUESTION : HOW TO DESIGN HAYES VALLEY INTIMACY WITHIN A BIG VOLUME?

SOLUTION : CREATE A TOWER LANGUAGE THAT SPEAKS TO HAYES VALLEY WHILE CIVIC CENTER ARCHITECTURE INFLUENCES THE PODIUM DESIGN.

WE ALSO STRATEGIZED AND DESIGNED THE PODIUM LAYOUT AND OPEN TERRACES.

GROUND FLOOR: HOW TO CREATE A HUMAN-SCALE EXPERIENCE IN  A LARGE SCALE INTERSECTION? WE LOOKED AT THE MAIN CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITES.

WE DESIGNED THE OVERALL VOLUME AND THE SKIN OF THE BUILDING BASED ON OUR PREVIOUS STRATEGIES AND FINDINGS.

"SAN FRANCISCO IS WHITE, GREEN, AND GRAY.

WHITE LIKE THE HOUSES GLITTERING IN THE SUN WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE CITY FROM SAUSALITO OR MOUNT TAMALPAIS.

GREEN LIKE THE PRESIDIO WOODS DAMP WITH FOG, THE SUNNY FIELD OF DOLORES PARK, THE FROTHY WATERS OF THE BAY IN A STIFF WIND.

GRAY LIKE THE FOG THAT WRAPS AROUND IT, COOLS IT, HIDES IT."
